When is the best time to schedule a maternity session? Most clients schedule their maternity session between 28 and 36 weeks. This window tends to be the sweet spot—your bump is beautifully visible, but you're (hopefully!) still comfortable enough to move around. That said, it all depends on how you’re feeling and what part of your pregnancy journey you’d like to capture.

I recommend avoiding dates too close to your due date—babies love their own timeline, and we don’t want to miss our chance!

Your maternity session doesn’t have to fall within that 28–36 week range. Some clients book earlier for pregnancy announcements or gender reveal sessions—or even both! If you'd like to plan multiple sessions, I’m happy to offer a discount package just for that.

Outdoor sessions are best scheduled during the “golden hour”—within 1–2 hours after sunrise or before sunset—for the most flattering, dreamy light.

What is a maternity session like?I totally get that being in front of the camera can feel a little awkward at first—but maternity sessions are actually some of the most natural-feeling sessions to shoot. You’ll always have something to do with your hands (thank you, baby bump!), and I’ll guide you every step of the way.

We’ll start with some classic poses—like how to hold your belly and where to look—but I also like to keep things candid and fun with natural movement and little prompts to bring out genuine smiles and connection.

I’ll usually suggest a few spots where I think the light will be especially beautiful, but if you have a favorite location, flower, or vibe in mind, I’d love to hear it.

Props? Totally optional! Some clients bring special items like an ultrasound photo, baby shoes, a blanket, or a letterboard. Others bring nothing at all—and the photos are just as perfect. Do whatever feels right for you.

How long is the session? Most maternity sessions last about one hour, give or take.Timing may vary slightly depending on location—some spots (like parks or nature trails) involve a little more walking between photo spots.

Not sure where to shoot? Some client favorites include parks in Mandeville, Madisonville, and Covington, or we can do a classic New Orleans session for those iconic vibes.

When will I receive the photos? You’ll get your full gallery within two weeks of your session. I know baby could be arriving soon, so I work hard to make sure your photos are delivered promptly!

Can we include pets?Absolutely—yes to furry family members!Depending on your pet’s personality, I’ve got a few tricks to help them look their best in the shot. The only catch is that not all locations allow animals—but don’t worry, I know plenty that do.

What should we wear?Wear something that feels like you and that you're comfortable in.

Some clients go for jeans and a cozy sweater; others love long, flowing dresses. Can’t decide? Bring both—we’ll have time to switch outfits if you’d like.

My personal style leans toward a soft, natural film look, which pairs beautifully with pastels and neutral tones like cream, white, beige, gray, peach, or soft blues. But if you love bold color or moody contrast—go for it! These photos are about capturing you.

If your partner or kids are joining, coordinating outfits is great—but don’t stress about matching too perfectly. No need for white polos and khakis unless that’s your thing ;)
